One of the characteristics of the chin in common with the nose and many other areas of change is that the front view and the side view are separate and independent .

The first patient shows this in that the front view has changed very little compared to the profile.

Usually the front and side views can be designed and planned separately and independently. But the second patient is an exception.

Here the face was made shorter by lifting up the chin and projecting it forward instead of down. This can be done with her own tissue instead of an implant.

Most of those with a greater change require a teflon or silicone implant. Each of the last two patients had routine shaping of the chin with a soft silicone rubber. Unlike breast implants, the solid implants have been used for about 45-50 years with no hint of problems.

The most likely serious problem would be infection. And we have not had a chin implant we inserted in standard technique become infected in over 25 years.
